Essex Anxiety Coach

Hello
Hi, I'm Chris. the Essex Anxiety Coach.
I help people understand what’s really causing their anxiety, break free from patterns that leave them feeling trapped, and build the self-trust, freedom and confidence to live life in a way that feels right for them.
I’m happily married with two fabulous adult children, a son-in-law, and a beautiful dog who reminds me every day to slow down and live in the moment.
I love music - except jazz, and can often be found at a festival or at a gig. I love spending time outside and sitting around a firepit or spending time with family and friends. Travelling is my favourite thing. New experiences, new places and preferably some sun make me very happy.
I don't like pesto, in fact I detest the stuff. Even the smell makes me gag and I think avocado is overrated. Controversial, I know!
I’ve got lots of tattoos, each one has a special meaning and tells a chapter in the story of my life.
I believe you should be able to live life in a way that feels true to you.
Not the version anxiety tells you to live.
Not the version shaped by fear or other people’s expectations.
The version that feels like you.
And that belief is at the heart of both my own journey and the work I now do with others.
My Journey With Anxiety
If you’re reading this because anxiety has started affecting the way you think, feel or live your life, I want you to know something — I understand.
The spiralling thoughts, constant overthinking and self-doubt.
The feeling that your mind never switches off and the exhaustion of trying to keep everything together.
For years, I experienced anxiety and the impact it can have on your thoughts, emotions and confidence. I know what it feels like to question yourself, feel overwhelmed and wonder if things will ever feel different.
My own experience taught me something incredibly important:
Anxiety isn’t something we need to fight. It’s something we need to understand.
Because anxiety is often a response to our experiences, our beliefs and the ways we have learnt to protect ourselves.
Everything began to change for me when I discovered mindfulness. I realised I didn’t have to believe every thought that entered my mind or be controlled by every emotion I felt.
I could learn to respond differently.
I became more aware of my thoughts, emotions and reactions, and how they shaped the way I experienced situations. I learned to relate to myself with more compassion and create a different relationship with my own mind.
And as my own life changed, I knew I wanted to help others experience that same sense of freedom and choice.
Why I Do This Work
Because I understand.
I know what it's like to feel trapped in patterns of overthinking, self-doubt and anxiety, and I also understand the courage it takes to start looking at those patterns differently.
My role is not to tell you to “think positive” or give you strategies to manage anxiety on the surface.
It’s to help you understand what is really happening beneath the anxiety — the thoughts, beliefs, emotions and experiences that may be influencing the way you see yourself and respond to life.
With over 25 years of experience supporting people in a variety of settings, including private practice, education, the criminal justice system and the asylum process, I have worked with people from many different backgrounds and life experiences.
What I have learned is that anxiety is rarely just about what is happening in the present.
Often, it is connected to the way our minds and nervous systems have learnt to respond to past experiences.
That understanding is at the heart of my approach.
How I Can Help You
My journey into this work began as a Complementary Therapist.
Over time, I realised that the part that created the biggest change for many people wasn’t just the treatments themselves — it was the conversations, the connection and having a safe space where they could explore what they were experiencing.
This led me to become a Coach, where I discovered the importance of understanding our thoughts, beliefs and behaviours. I trained in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) so I could support clients in developing greater awareness and healthier ways of responding.
But I also realised that for some people, understanding their thoughts wasn't enough.
They knew why they were feeling the way they did, but they still felt trapped by emotions and patterns they couldn't seem to move past.
This led me to train in Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), helping clients work with emotional blocks and feel more settled, balanced and in control of their responses.
I then discovered the power of Clinical Hypnotherapy and how it can support people in working with deeply held beliefs and patterns that may be influencing how they think, feel and respond.
And that's how my Freedom from Anxiety Programme was created.
It brings together everything I have learnt through my own journey, my professional experience and the training I have completed over the years.
A trauma-informed, personalised approach that combines coaching, CBT, mindfulness, EFT and Clinical Hypnotherapy (where appropriate), alongside a holistic approach that sees you as a whole person — not just your anxiety.
Together, we explore the root causes of anxiety, the patterns that are holding you back and the ways you think, feel and respond.
My aim is to help you understand yourself more deeply, build self-trust and create a different relationship with your thoughts and emotions, so anxiety no longer controls the choices you make or the life you want to live.
So you can move forward with confidence, freedom and control.
I am accredited by EMCC at Senior Practitioner level and am a member of the Complementary Medicine Association (MCMA).
If this feels like the approach you've been looking for, you can book your Free Anxiety Insight Call and we can explore how I can support you.
I look forward to meeting you.
